I think the fandom WANTS her anger to be related to the abuse she experienced at Damon’s hands in Season 1. Because the show NEVER even tries to address it, the audience kind of uses her S4 reactions to Delena as Caroline’s de facto revenge/reaction to Damon’s abuse. I think many on this sub assume that Caroline hates Delena because of her own history of being abused by Damon, but the show never even hints at that. With Valerie’s help, Stefan kills Julian, but he becomes a target of the Vampire Hunter Rayna Cruz who has eight lives. When Lily, Stefan and Damon’s mother, is rescued from the 1903 prison world and turns out to be a vampire, she manages to turn on Stefan’s humanity again. However, it later is revealed that Lily lied to get him back and does not love her sons anymore and only wants her travelling companions back.

After Damon sees awoken up Elena, he hugs her tight, only to realize that it was Katherine who comes back from hell.
